Originally called Stormaway she was one of Contessa's demo boats and was based at Troon (Scotland). She was then sold to Clyde sailing school and used as a school/charter boat for the next 10 years. Ian and Nicky Slade bought her from the sailing school in a rather run-down state (the floorboards were floating apparently!), and restored the interior and resprayed the hull. They raced and cruised Stormaway on the west coast of Scotland for many years, and finally sold Stormaway to James Adlington & Suzanne Simpson in 2000. They continued to cruise & race on the Clyde and replaced the Watermota engine with a Beta. Stormaway was sold to Peter Cameron & Kenneth Millar in December 2006, who renamed her Contessa Royale. They gave her some some much needed cosmetic enhancements with a hull and top sides respray, restoring interior woodwork, and re-upholster.
